Herlinda Leyva de Arriaga

This page is dedicated to my grandmother.

My grandmother Herlinda Leyva de Arriaga was born on March 23, 1917. Her and my grandpa got married on July 25, 1938. They lived in Mexico up until 1965. They than moved to Chicago to provide a better life for their kids. My grandmother found a job working at the Marshall Fields Company. It wasn't until my great grandmother Rafaela got sick that my grandparents moved back to San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The year was 1980.

Since then I can remember many road trips, these were no ordinary road trips. It would usually take 33 hours to get to Mexico. The trip was not only long but tiresome. We would have to travel through the mountains in order to get to our destination. Boy did I get sick! That wasn't the only reason I hated driving thru the mountains. The other reason was because people drove like maniacs through them!! Some of the turns on the mountains didn't have rails and cars and buses zoomed by! We are a brave family and made that drive every year or two to visit.

Yo siempre me enfermaba.

725 Azteca Sur. That is the address of my grandparents house. Since I was a little kid I remember staying there. I always use to think, Wow! This place looks huge for only two people! When you walked through the door you saw in front of you a long hallway. Each side of the hallway led to a diffrent room in the house, those rooms also connected to each other as well. There was four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a family room, dining room, kitchen and back patio. You see this house was not only for my grandparents but for my whole family. We all stayed there when we came to visit. It was home.

We shared many memories in that house. Their dining room was always a place to sit, tell stories, laugh and reminisce. I will miss those times..

Extranare' esos tiempos.
